Tanya Sammis | Co-owner

Tanya is the heart and soul of Sammis & Ochoa. She has dedicated her career to the promotion of her clients and their endeavors. Tanya’s experience includes management positions in public relations and the non-profit industry, in addition to community- and media-related work in the sports industry.

She has managed public relations and event coordination accounts for clients making an impact locally and across the world from the AT&T Championship to the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner. Her daily work consists of managing the culture of the company and delivering happiness both in and out of the office, while developing strategic communications campaigns, storylines and empowering community programs for the likes of the Plastic & Cosmetic Center of South Texas, Morningside Ministries, Geekdom and MBS Life, among others.

Tanya’s expertise lies in media relationships and coverage, as well as producing and managing the communications elements of full-scale events. She finds joy in creating and nurturing relationships with clients, the media, community members and vendors. One of her favorite things about owning a business, in addition to having the opportunity to energize humans, is having found a business partner who complements her like bacon does eggs.

She recently combined her love of the ‘trep life with her enjoyment of CrossFit and recently launched a new endeavor, with the opening of CrossFit Virilis, alongside co-owner Jobie Zapico. She sits on the board for the San Antonio affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and is the Race for the Cure public relations committee chair. She is also on the San Antonio Sports marketing committee. She also loves to bake, a lot.

Her mission is simple: To make at least one person’s day better every day so that they may positively impact the lives of others, and ultimately, change the world.

Mario Ochoa | Co-Owner

Mario is the resident optimist for San Antonio’s Sammis & Ochoa. He specializes in media relations, copywriting, community outreach planning, and looking at the glass half-full.

As a native San Antonian, Mario is committed to the city and brings with him a profound affection for the development of his hometown. From the bustling and burgeoning center city to the vivid cultural scenes of the Westside, if it’s San Antonio, Mario will rally behind it.

Starting as a student journalist for the University of the Incarnate Word Logos, Mario has accumulated over 12 years of experience in the media and public relations industry.

In his tenure as a public relations practitioner, he has handled accounts for regional small businesses – Express Information Systems, JC Food Mart, and others – large corporate entities – Career Education Corporation, Screamworks Entertainment, Gladiator Events, and others.

Mario also is an active local speaker and regularly presents at high school and university-level institutions on public relations best practices.  He is also a rotating member of the Gang of Four radio program hosted by Jack Riccardi on KTSA 550 AM San Antonio.

However, nothing jazzes him more than learning. An avid reader of anything he can get his hands on, Mario has been known to devote hours online and offline to learning about the world – its cultures, its communities and its eccentricities. If you can’t find him at his desk, look for him reading a book on his tablet or surfing Wikipedia.

Jenny Flores | Account Manager

Graduate of: Texas State University
Industry Experience: 4 years

Jenny joined the Sammis & Ochoa team in August 2011 as a fall intern. She graduated from Texas State University in the summer of 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication, with a minor in Spanish. She is currently attending Schreiner University to pursue a Master of Business Administration. She returned to the S&O team in December 2014 full-time as an account coordinator. She also gained experience in marketing and public relations working in a marketing role in the corporate department for Wing Stop prior to finding her permanent home at Sammis & Ochoa.

Jenny has a passion for volunteering and is active with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Lone Star Chapter. She started volunteering with them in Spring 2011 and has helped coordinate silent auctions for their annual gala, the Annual Tower Climb and Run and the Great Strides Walk. She also helped in the founding of her church’s young adult group, The Ministry of the 13th Disciple, where she sits as public relations chair for the organization.

When she is not at the office, you can usually find her hosting faith sharing groups, watching Disney movies or at a Spurs game!

Victoria Reyna | Account Manager

Victoria first came on board with Sammis & Ochoa as an intern in January 2014. A semester later, she officially joined our team as an Account Assistant. She graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a Concentration in Public Relations in the summer of 2015 and soon after, assumed her new role as an Account Manager.

Victoria has gained experience working on both non-profit and corporate accounts of various industries including the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner, Morningside Ministries, the City of San Antonio, BIG RED DOG Engineering and more, as well as serving as an administrator for the UTSA All-State Choir Camp. She first found her passion for public relations by utilizing her writing expertise, media relations, community outreach, and creative storytelling to help clients share their own stories, which she believes is the most important aspect of public relations.

Throughout her college career, Victoria stayed involved in organizations that both gave her the experience she needed for life after graduation and helped her stay connected with her passions – writing, making music, and living life to the fullest. She was a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America for three years, during which she served as the organization’s Historian, Webmaster, and Fundraising Chair. She also served as President of the Theta Gamma chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, an International Music Fraternity for Women. She led the chapter in efforts to raise over $1,000 to provide ipods and personalized music playlists to members of the San Antonio community suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia. The organization won a national award for their service project under her leadership.

Victoria enjoys volunteering her time and talents by photographing students in need of LinkedIn and audition head shots, singing for patients at hospitals and nursing homes in her hometown, and mentoring local students. When she’s not in the office, you can find her jamming out to Coldplay, enjoying an episode of Friends, or searching Buzzfeed for adorable puppy GIFs.

Catherine Williams | Account Coordinator

Catherine got her start in public relations, marketing, and event coordination in 2010 while a freshman at The University of Texas at Austin. Starting in the fashion industry she worked with clients such as Marie Claire and Stylitics and was a runway coordinator for SXSW Style X.

While working in the fashion industry Catherine was exposed to the music scene Austin had to offer, and quickly fell in love. She decided to refocus her efforts on the entertainment industry working with Pandora Internet Radio, Mass Appeal, and Vice during the yearly SXSW showcase.

Learning the ins and outs of how major productions are organized, she was ready for new challenges where she explored the health and wellness industry. The health industry provided Catherine the satisfaction of knowing she was helping people improve their lives. Catherine worked with The University of Texas at Austin Athletic Department, The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department, as well as tech startups focused on helping people get active.

Her passion for events, and public relations comes from her love of connecting people and watching relationships bloom. She believes that you can never have too many connections and that all people, no matter how different they are can be brought together through fun!

Brandy Perez | Social Media Specialist

Graduate of: San Antonio College

Brandy joined the Sammis & Ochoa team in 2013, beginning her journey with the agency as the office manager. Putting her creativity, organization, and explorative nature to work, she helped to grow the company, developing client relations programs, efficient work systems, and communications campaigns during her tenure in this role.

In 2016, after learning the craft of social media management and getting the creative itch to dive into the immense ocean of social media as we know it today, Brandy took the reigns as the social media specialist for Sammis & Ochoa. Managing social media accounts from Dr. Jeneby’s Plastic & Cosmetic Center of South Texas to the local Susan G. Komen San Antonio chapter, among many others, she daily uses her strategic mind and photographic eye to communicate, storytell, interact, and engage with audiences across the city, state, nation, and globe. Brandy also oversees development of social media campaigns in collaboration with the agency’s account management team.

Brandy also serves as the agency’s photographer. Her incredible ability to catch the best of the moment has allowed her to be a successful professional photographer since 2009, photographing everything from client events, haunted house horrors, and puppy Fiesta photo shoots to fashion shows, fine art, and modeling shoots.

In her spare time, she enjoys the musical stylings of Michael Carrillo and Deer Vibes. She loves cats, pistachios, and bacon. Her favorite piece of advice, and the advice she gives to you is this, “Everything you do and everything you say should be driven by the responsibility that it will have an impact on this world.”
