Tanya Sammis | Co-owner

Tanya is the heart and soul of Sammis & Ochoa. She has dedicated her career to the promotion of her clients and their endeavors. Tanya’s experience includes management positions in public relations and the non-profit industry, in addition to community- and media-related work in the sports industry.
She has managed public relations and event coordination accounts for clients making an impact locally and across the world from the AT&T Championship to the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner. Her daily work consists of managing the culture of the company and delivering happiness both in and out of the office, while developing strategic communications campaigns, storylines and empowering community programs for the likes of the Plastic & Cosmetic Center of South Texas, Morningside Ministries, Geekdom and MBS Life, among others.
Tanya’s expertise lies in media relationships and coverage, as well as producing and managing the communications elements of full-scale events. She finds joy in creating and nurturing relationships with clients, the media, community members and vendors. One of her favorite things about owning a business, in addition to having the opportunity to energize humans, is having found a business partner who complements her like bacon does eggs.
She recently combined her love of the ‘trep life with her enjoyment of CrossFit and recently launched a new endeavor, with the opening of CrossFit Virilis, alongside co-owner Jobie Zapico. She sits on the board for the San Antonio affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and is the Race for the Cure public relations committee chair. She is also on the San Antonio Sports marketing committee. She also loves to bake, a lot.
Her mission is simple: To make at least one person’s day better every day so that they may positively impact the lives of others, and ultimately, change the world.
Mario Ochoa | Co-Owner
Education: B.A. Communication Arts – University of the Incarnate Word – San Antonio – 2004
Industry Experience: 13 years
Mario is the resident optimist for San Antonio’s Sammis & Ochoa. He specializes in media relations, copywriting, community outreach planning, and looking at the glass half-full.
As a native San Antonian, Mario is committed to the city and brings with him a profound affection for the development of his hometown. From the bustling and burgeoning center city to the vivid cultural scenes of the Westside, if it’s San Antonio, Mario will rally behind it.
Starting as a student journalist for the University of the Incarnate Word Logos, Mario has accumulated over 12 years of experience in the media and public relations industry.
In his tenure as a public relations practitioner, he has handled accounts for regional small businesses – Express Information Systems, JC Food Mart, and others – large corporate entities – Career Education Corporation, Screamworks Entertainment, Gladiator Events, and others.
Mario also is an active local speaker and regularly presents at high school and university-level institutions on public relations best practices. He is also a rotating member of the Gang of Four radio program hosted by Jack Riccardi on KTSA 550 AM San Antonio.
However, nothing jazzes him more than learning. An avid reader of anything he can get his hands on, Mario has been known to devote hours online and offline to learning about the world – its cultures, its communities and its eccentricities. If you can’t find him at his desk, look for him reading a book on his tablet or surfing Wikipedia.

Allie Benson | Account Manager
Education: B.A. Public Relations – Texas State University – San Marcos – 2011
Industry Experience: 4 years
Allie launched her career as an intern with Sammis & Ochoa in January 2011. During her tenure she expanded her knowledge of the industry. She then graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos with an emphasis in public relations and a minor in French.
She also has a passion for volunteering in her community and stands by the quote, “Service is the rent we pay for the space we occupy on this earth.” Allie serves on the staff of Texas Bluebonnet Girls State, an American Legion Auxiliary sponsored program geared toward teaching high school-aged girls the principles and practices of state and local government. She has been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary since the summer of 2011.
Allie has developed a strong foothold in creating and executing diverse communications strategies and is well-versed in building meaningful media relations campaigns for companies both local to San Antonio and across the nation. From the Daniels Family Foundation to Geekdom to Entrepreneurs’ Organization Chicago, she daily works to generate and share incredible stories from a variety of industries with her special knack for communicating and development relationships with each client’s respective audience.
She sits on the Marketing Committee of LOOP, a group dedicated to transforming San Antonio into a premiere city of choice for talented, motivated and innovative young professionals. When she’s not working, Allie enjoys going to Alamo Drafthouse, reading and cheering for the San Antonio Spurs.

Alyssa Walker | Account Manager
Education: B.A. Convergent Media – The University of Incarnate Word – San Antonio – 2013
Industry Experience: 2 years
Alyssa joined our team in Summer 2014 after graduating from the University of the Incarnate Word with a degree in Convergent Media, which encompasses all the aspects of communication arts. During her college career, she interned at companies that allowed her to utilize her writing and communication skills, ultimately leading her to a career in public relations.
Since joining the Sammis & Ochoa team, Alyssa has worked on multiple accounts including the 13th Floor, BIG RED DOG Engineering, Downtown Tuesday, Rosella and Tony Roma’s. From brainstorming sessions to coordinating and executing client events of every shape and size, Alyssa enjoys being involved in everything public relations offers.
Alyssa also has a zeal for the development in the city of San Antonio. She maintains a blog called Twenty Something SA, which celebrates the city and depicts the exploration of San Antonio and all of its hot spots, as well as its hidden gems, to help individuals understand and appreciate what makes our city so amazing.
When she’s not playing with her loving and beautiful cat, Kidder, she’s spending time outdoors, taking photos or reading anything written by Stephen King. Alyssa is passionate about living a healthy lifestyle, both physically and mentally, and works to inspire those around her to do the same.

Jenny Flores | Account Coordinator
Education: B.A. Mass Communication – Texas State University – San Marcos – 2013
Industry Experience: 3 years
Jenny joined the Sammis & Ochoa team in August 2011 as a fall intern. She graduated from Texas State University in the summer of 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication, with a minor in Spanish. She is currently attending Schreiner University to pursue a Master of Business Administration. She returned to the S&O team in December 2014 full-time as an account coordinator. She also gained experience in marketing and public relations working in a marketing role in the corporate department for Wing Stop prior to finding her permanent home at Sammis & Ochoa.
Jenny has a passion for volunteering and is active with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Lone Star Chapter. She started volunteering with them in Spring 2011 and has helped coordinate silent auctions for their annual gala, the Annual Tower Climb and Run and the Great Strides Walk. She also helped in the founding of her church’s young adult group, The Ministry of the 13th Disciple, where she sits as public relations chair for the organization.
When she is not at the office, you can usually find her hosting faith sharing groups, watching Disney movies or at a Spurs game!

Lynnette Montemayor | Account Coordinator
Education: B.A. Public Relations – The University of Texas at San Antonio – 2014
Industry Experience: 2 years
Lynnette served as a summer intern in 2012 while pursuing her bachelor’s degree in public relations. Lynnette loved the S&O team so much that she returned in 2013 to join the team as our account assistant. Lynnette graduated in May 2014, traveled the world for a summer and came back to take on the full-time role of account coordinator.
Lynnette has an incredible knack for storytelling and does so through verbal and written word, as well as videography. She is able to craft stories through the use of technology with creativity and excellence. She has worked on accounts including the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner, San Antonio BCycle, Tony Roma’s and the Plastic and Cosmetic Center of South Texas. She also used her communication talents to serve many student organizations at UTSA.
In her me time, Lynnette enjoys dancing, being outdoors, and traveling. In 2014, Lynnette studied abroad in Ireland and backpacked to three other countries in Europe meeting a diverse array of humans and experiencing the culture along the way. Her time is most enjoyably spent painting or playing with her little dachshund, Max.

Victoria Reyna | Account Assistant
Education: B.A. Communication in progress – University of Texas at San Antonio
Industry Experience: 1 year
Victoria first came on board with Sammis & Ochoa in January 2014. A few months later, she officially joined our team as an account assistant. She currently studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio where she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in communication with a concentration in public relations and a minor in business administration.
Victoria works on both non-profit and corporate accounts of various industries including the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner, Morningside Ministries, the City of San Antonio, and The Plastic and Cosmetic Center of South Texas, using her writing expertise and love of photographing to help clients tell their stories to the San Antonio community.
Throughout her college career, Victoria has stayed involved in organizations that have both given her the experience she will need for life after graduation and helped her stay connected with her passions – writing, making music, and living life to the fullest. She currently serves as President of the Theta Gamma chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, an International Music Fraternity and as Director of Fundraising for the Steven R. Levitt chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America.
Victoria enjoys volunteering her time and talents by photographing students in need of LinkedIn and audition headshots, singing for patients at hospitals and nursing homes in her hometown, and most recently, editing a recruitment video for the UTSA voice department. When she’s not in the office or school, you can find her with her nose in a book, enjoying an episode of Friends or strumming a guitar.
