We are now accepting internship applications for the summer semester (May – August) and fall semester (August – December).

Sammis & Ochoa Internship Description

Our team is seeking interns (public relations, social media, and business development/sales) to join our growing, innovative, fast-paced team to learn and gain hands-on experience in the field of public relations, in areas of expertise, including media relations, social media, community programming, strategic planning and event coordination. All of these elements work together to ultimately share our clients’ stories with the world and energize the communities around us.

PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERN

Responsibilities:
• Building and maintaining media lists
• Drafting and editing copy for press releases and other relevant materials
• Reviewing and assisting with reporting of all media hits and mentions
• Writing and editing blog posts
• Maintaining awards and speaking engagement calendars for clients
• Posting calendar event listings for relevant client events
• Attending media appearances, press conferences, and events to assist with interviews, segments, and other relevant media-related needs
• Researching industry trends and staying up-to-date on current events
• Contributing toward strategic positioning and messaging documents
• Attending meetings and taking notes
• Additional tasks as needed

SOCIAL MEDIA INTERN

Responsibilities:
• Building and maintaining social influencer lists
• Creating content for social media postings and communication
• Reviewing and assisting with reporting of social media analytics
• Writing and editing blog posts
• Researching industry trends and staying up-to-date on current events
• Assisting with livestreams for clients to serve as part of the overall communications campaign
• Ideation to maintain progressive, consistently improving presence of client social media accounts
• Attending events to support with onsite social media efforts

SALES & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT INTERN

Responsibilities:
• Researching industry trends, markets, and prospects
• Drafting copy to assist with proposal development
• Studying and applying market analysis for variety of industries
• Contributing toward strategic positioning and messaging documents
• Attending meetings and taking notes
• Additional tasks as needed

Required skills:
• Exceptional writer, experience in grant or proposal writing in courses is a plus
• Task-oriented

• Interested in learning

• Results-driven

Other details for all internship positions:
• Job type: Part-time, on-site (12-16 hours per week)
• Job length: 16 weeks (Estimated dates: May 22 – August 25)*
• College Credit for internship preferred, but not required.
• Compensation: First semester internships are unpaid; may earn college credit for the internship.

*Slight flexibility with start/end dates

ACCOUNT COORDINATOR 

The account coordinator will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop public relations campaigns including strategy, goals and tactics.
  • Coordinate and execute media relations strategy, seeking publicity and placements in print, broadcast and online media.
  • Provide social media support to execute strategy and engage audiences across traditional and new media.
  • Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts within business and industry media.
  • Coordinate media inquiries and interview requests.
  • Create content, as needed, including press releases, etc.
  • Support manager in analysis PR results on a monthly basis, delivering End of Month (EOM) reports to clients, along with a discussion to explain analytics, ideas, progress and stuck points.
  • Listen to and apply client feedback to reporting.
  • Support evaluation of opportunities for partnerships and community programs on an ongoing basis.
  • Build relationships with thought leaders to grow industry awareness.
  • Maintain a keen understanding of industry news, as well as news around the city, affecting clients and make appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategy surrounding them.
  • Communicate with your account team and client routinely to keep a frequent communication channel of progress and deliverables.
  • Demonstrate company core values in the work you do both in and outside the walls of S&O.
  • Share the purpose of our company, to energize, through you work, actions and words.
